The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport has confirmed that Andrew Papadopoulos has been elected to the role of president on a two year term starting on 1 January 2009.

Papadopoulos takes the presidency after current President Colin Osborne decided not to seek re-election after serving on the CAMS Board since 1990, serving as President for the past seven and a half years.

Papadopoulos has held a position on the CAMS Board almost continuously since 2001 and is currently one of two Vice-Presidents, is Chairman of the Audit and Finance Committee and is a founding board member of the Australian Institute of Motor Sport Safety.

“I am honoured that the Board has entrusted me with the position of President,” he said. “We have some major challenges facing our organisation but with our focus on service delivery and consultation with our stakeholders and members I am looking forward to leading our organisation into a confident future.

“On behalf of the Board, I wish to thank Colin Osborne for his leadership as President for the last seven and a half years and look forward to his continued involvement in the organisation.”

The CAMS Board has also elected Bob Glindemann and Bob Piper to the positions of Vice President for 2009. Glindemann and Piper join Papadopoulos in leading the organisation in 2009.
