Here's an interesting one. V8 Supercar driver David Besnard finished ten places higher in the Champ Car World Series final standings than he did in the tally at the end of the V8 Supercar Series.
Besnard, who had a one-off drive in the American-based Champ Cars when the championship came to Australia's Surfers Paradise, scored 18 points thanks to his seventh place in the Australian round of the series.
The eighteen points accrued meant he finished the year ahead of the likes of Memo Gridley, Tarso Marques, Michael Valiante and Jarek Janis, with 24 drivers scoring points in the Champ Cars in 2004.
In the V8 Supercars, admittedly a far more competitive series with considerably more entrants, Besnard in the WPS Falcon with the shy and retiring team boss, ended the year in 30th in the overall standings. Some 77 drivers drove in the Aussie series at some point during the year.
Besnard was also the lowest overall scoring solo driver to have won a race in 2005, after his late award for the final race in the Tasmanian round. Of the enduro drivers, Greg Ritter was part of the round winning team at the rather wet Sandown round, and finished below Besnard in the standings, in 32nd place.
