Citroen team boss, Guy Frequelin has hailed the performances of his two drivers' - Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Sordo, after they finished 1-2 on the Rally Catalunya on Sunday and gave the French manufacturer the maximum points haul possible.
The result was especially significant for Loeb as it allowed him to cut the gap to Marcus Gronholm at the top of the drivers' championship – the margin going down from 10 points to 6.
Speaking at the finish, Frequelin warned though that they will need to do exactly the same on the Rallye de France-Tour de Corse, which follows straight on from the event in Spain.
"We started the Rally Catalunya with the objective of finishing first and second, and that's what we've done. I'm obviously delighted," he noted.
"The remarkable thing, however, is the way we achieved today's result. Once again, the C4 showed how strong it is on sealed surfaces and everyone at Citroën Sport put in a fantastic job. We came through all the potential pitfalls and made some top tyre choices which put both crews in an ideal position.
"Seb and Daniel [Elena] dominated while Dani and Marc [Marti] put in a superb run that was both fast and intelligent. We now need to repeat all this again next week in Corsica, but we are all fired up to do just that."
Pressed on if he was at all anxious during the event, Frequelin added that he is 'always nerous' during rallies.
"For sure, I was very nervous, but it's like this. We expected before the rally to do a result with both cars and crews. It's sometimes difficult to do what we expect, but for this rally we did what we expect," he continued.
"It's very nice and I'm very happy. Now the difference between Marcus and Sébastien is a little less. It's very important for the next rallies.
"Sure, it's very difficult in terms of the manufacturers' championship still and I don't think we can win the manufacturers'. It's also very difficult to catch Marcus and Timo [Rautiainen], but we will do everything we can and I hope we will do our best," he concluded.
