Frequelin: We did top job again |
Citroen boss, Guy Frequelin has once again paid tribute to his number one driver, Sebastien Loeb, following the Frenchman's 'brilliantly constructed victory' in Corsica on Sunday.
Loeb's win allowed him to further cut the gap to Marcus Gronholm at the top of the drivers' championship and now just four points separates the two multiple world champions.
Citroen also did well in terms of the manufacturers', taking 16 points in total, while Ford only notched up 9 points after Mikko Hirvonen's mistake on day 1 - something Frequelin admitted was a bit of a 'dream' scenario.
As such the French outfit cut the gap to the 'Blue Oval' and while they remain some way behind - 32-points adrift - with three events left and 54 points up for grabs they are by no means out of it.
"With both our crews on the podium and a score of 12 fastest times from a possible 15, everyone at Citroen Sport did the same top job on asphalt that they have put in all year," reflected Guy.
"Seb and Daniel [Elena] constructed their victory brilliantly, taking the time to perfect the handling of their car before going on to claim their seventh win of the season. They have moved closer to the leader in the Drivers' championship.
"It's a just a shame that Dani and Marc [Marti] didn't succeed in splitting Seb and Marcus in the final results. But Dani perhaps lacked a little experience to adapt quickly enough to the terrain."
Asked about Seb's prospects in the race for the drivers' title, Frequelin added that while it will be tough, they will keep on trying to get the better of Gronholm - and Ford.
"We know it will be difficult with three different rallies left - Japan, Ireland and GB. We have a chance though to win, but Seb must win three times. If Marcus and Timo [Rautiainen] finish second in the three last rallies, it will be difficult, but we will try for sure," he concluded.
