NEWS FLASH: Loeb and Latvala out |
Mikko Hirvonen's chance of winning the Rally Japan received a major boost in SS13, when both of his nearest challengers - Sebastien Loeb and Jari-Matti Latvala, retired.
Loeb, who had been running 10.6 seconds behind Hirvonen, went out during the 20.75 kilometre-run through Niueo 1, when he slide off the road. The Frenchman was unable to finish the stage.
Latvala also had problems in the same test and went off. He collided with a tree 6.5 kilometres in and damaged the front end of his Stobart Ford Focus RS WRC06. Like Seb he was could not continue.
