Bumper entry for Rally GB |
The organisers of the Wales Rally GB have published the list of the entries received today [Thursday] and just like in 2006, the event again leads the way with the most competitors for a single event in the WRC.
Only two other events have managed to break into three figures this season, namely Finland and Germany, but GB betters both with 121 set to start the event, the final round in the 2007 FIA World Rally Championship, which runs from November 30 to December 2.
All the manufacturer teams' will attend the event, although the OMV Kronos Citroen WRT will
not field a #2 car for Francois Duval.
In total 26 WRC cars are entered with Sebastian Lindholm in the new Suzuki SX4 WRC, Jan Kopecky in a privately entered Skoda Fabia WRC and JRC regular, Conrad Rautenbach in a Citroen Xsara WRC.
Mads Ostberg will also compete in a WRC car, using a Subaru Impreza, while Andreas Mikkelsen, Gareth Jones and Peter van Merksteijn boost the number of Ford Focus RS WRC cars entered to ten.
In the FIA Production Car World Rally Championship [PWRC] category there will be 20 drivers' eligible to score points, including Gabriel Pozzo and Mark Higgins, who could both still be in with a chance of taking the PWRC crown, depending on how they do in Ireland, the event that precedes this one.
A number of the PWRC regulars have not nominated this round, namely Toshihiro Arai, #31, Fumio Nutahara, #35 and Nasser Al-Attiyah, #39.
Arai currently leads the PWRC by 17 points, but he has already taken in his six points' scoring events.
As the Rally GB is the final round of the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship - and a double points' scoring event as well for those in the BRC - it will be especially significant. Several the stars from the BRC have entered including Mitsubishi's Guy Wilks and Gwyndaf Evans, as well as David Higgins, Wyn Humphries, Rob Swann and many more.
Mark Higgins incidentally will be able to score points in the PWRC and the BRC. Currently six drivers' remain in contention for the BRC title.
