by Geoff MayesWelsh rally driver Stuart Jones is aiming to end a troubled season on a high as he heads into the final two rounds of the Production World Rally Championship refreshed and focused on the task ahead.
Jones, the only Welshman in the PWRC, has endured a character building season so far but with prior knowledge of what to expect from the final two rounds Jones is hoping to use his local knowledge to good effect.
Jones is also looking to building a strong and lasting partnership with new co-driver Andy Bull who replaces Craig Parry in the co-pilots seat. Bull, who has previous experience at world level, has co-driven for Jones in the past and as such the pair are confident that their combined experiences will make them a stronger team.
“Craig was recently offered a brilliant deal for the rest of the season and next year and there was no way I was going to stand in his way,” Jones said. “It's sad that we didn't have a better season together but I wish him well. Andy and I know each other well and I'm confident that we'll be in the groove right from the word go.
Jones has had a busy period recently as he has juggled a part time job with working on his fitness ahead of Irelands first ever WRC event.
Despite running on a very tight budget Jones has also completely rebuilt his Evo to the highest possible standard to ensure maximum reliability. The team, SJR, had one of its best runs of the year on the 2006 Ulster Rally. Featuring roads very similar to Rally Ireland, the result achieved last year has given Jones confidence ahead of this notoriously difficult event.
