FSTi: Clark fairly happy after Group N WRC debut

Britain's Barry Clark managed to finish in the top-eight in the Group N class on the Rally GB at the weekend, the final round in the 2007 FIA World Rally Championship.

Clark, who won the 2007 Fiesta SportingTrophy International series this year, opted to swap his two-wheel-drive Fiesta for a Group N Subaru Impreza N12 for the Welsh event and in the end he put in a very respectable performance.

Indeed he finished just outside the top twenty overall despite losing time on day 2 with a gearbox problem, which cost him nearly two minutes in penalties after he was late leaving service.

"I'm fairly happy with my performance and we did have a few problems here so I know I could go quicker given the proper preparation for an event like this," reflected the Stobart Motorsport-backed man.

"We lost time in service on Saturday when the guys had to change the gearbox and replace it with a standard one. Because of this I had to be careful on the box and my times were a bit slower for the second half of this rally.

"On the first day I was really happy with some of the times we set especially with this being my first world championship event in a four-wheel-drive Group N car.

"We ran BF Goodrich here and the tyres were perfect from start to finish. It's great to have finished and gained the full experience of another WRC event."

Clark's plans for next year meanwhile have yet to be confirmed, although some sources suggest he might get to do a few events in a Ford Focus RS WRC car, possibly as part of the Munchi's Ford World Rally Team set-up.
