Kronos abandon WRC?

Kronos Racing may not compete in the FIA World Rally Championship next year following confirmation that it has decided to 'focus its efforts' on the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

In a joint statement with BFGoodrich, the Belgian-based operation revealed that it will 'join forces' with the Michelin-owned brand next year, to give a number of drivers the opportunity to contest their home round of the IRC.

The drivers chosen will compete in a Kronos-run Peugeot 207 Super 2000 within the 'framework' of the 'BFGoodrich Drivers Team'.

"We have competed on BFGoodrich tyres since the beginning of the brand's involvement in rallying and we are particularly proud to be able to work together on a project such as this," said Kronos boss, Marc van Dalen.

"It's a unique and exceptional operation and the drivers who are chosen will be able to compete in ideal conditions. We are convinced that the concept will attract a long list of drivers who are interested in taking part."

Drivers will be selected after 'close consultation' with the national motor sport governing bodies of the different countries concerned.

"From this initial list of potential candidates, BFGoodrich and Kronos will ask the countries own media to nominate the crew that will take part in that event," added the joint statement.

"Before the event, a test session will be organised to enable the selected driver to familiarise himself with the Peugeot 207 Super 2000 and give him the best possible chance of a strong performance."

Further details of the 'BFGoodrich Drivers Team' operation will be communicated at a later date.
