JWRC: Prokop confirms plans for 2009

Martin Prokop has revealed that he will definitely compete in the Production Car World Rally Championship again next season - and he is also hoping to have another crack at the Junior series too.

Prokop, who took his third J-WRC win of the year on the Rallye de France-Tour de Corse last weekend, had been eager to mount a challenge for the Junior crown in 2008.

However in the end he had to settle for P3 in the standings - two points behind Aaron Burkart and ten points off the champ Sebastien Ogier, who was sensational in his debut year.

Speaking following the final round in the J-WRC, Prokop conceded he had mixed feelings about his season, not that it is over for him, as he will compete on Wales Rally GB - his sixth and final nominated P-WRC event, where he will switch back from a Citroen C2 S1600 to a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX.

"After the problems we've had all year we are very pleased with this result," Prokop summed-up. "I'm also very happy to have claimed three [J-WRC] wins this season - in Finland, Spain and Corsica.

"Our mistakes, however, cost us dearly and I feel quite disappointed as my aim was to be champion. We had the same outright speed as Sebastien Ogier and we've enjoyed some good battles with him. This has been a fantastic year from a sporting point of view and it has also been extremely educational.

"We have to decide now what we will do in 2009. For sure we will be in the Production Car Championship [again] and start with S2000.

"Then we will think about joining the Juniors and try to be champions. The team is ready for this. It would be a shame to finish with the Juniors. We'll soon decide about next year."

As for the 52nd Rallye de France-Tour de Corse itself, Prokop added that it wasn't an easy round: "It's a strange event. Friday was difficult and today [Sunday] the stages were incredible. It was more and more difficult," the Czech driver continued.

"We know the stages are very easy to make a mistake on. It's easy to get a puncture - the World Rally cars can cut where we can't. If we cut we can hit some small piece of tarmac. Luckily we could slow down in these places [as we had a good lead]. Today we tried to avoid hitting some big stones. This rally has been a very good event, but rough..."
