Historic result for Holowczyc

Stobart Ford 'guest' driver Krzysztof Holowczyc wrote his name in the record books last weekend, when he became the first ever Pole to score points in the WRC drivers' championship.

The fact the 1997 European Rally champion did it on his home event made it all the sweeter too and if that wasn't enough his sixth place finish also saw him surpass his previous best in the WRC - namely a seventh place in Argentina back in 1998.

Holowczyc gradually increased his pace as the event wore on and he got more and more use to his M-Sport-run Ford Focus RS WRC.

Indeed by the end he was posting some very competitive times - his best coming in SS15, when he was fourth.

That allowed him to close right up on the sister car of Matthew Wilson and at the finish he had reduced the gap from over 40 seconds at the end of day 1 to 16.4.

"It's been a fantastic rally and I'm very happy with the result," said Holowczyc, who also earned the Abu Dhabi Spirit of the Rally award.

"I have become the first Polish driver to score a drivers' point and to do it here on my home rally is a very special feeling; we've also scored our best WRC finish ever which was a big surprise at the end.

"I have to thank the fans, I have never seen so many people and flags and their energy and the atmosphere has really helped me along.

"It's five years since I have driven a WRC car and they have improved so much, this Focus is incredible and it's helped me to drive in a very clean and precise way."

Ford/M-Sport boss, Malcolm Wilson meanwhile was happy to see him do so well: "I'm pleased for Krzysztof to be the first Pole to score a point in the WRC.

"It is also great that he has done that as a part of the Stobart VK M-Sport Ford team," Wilson Sr concluded.
