Wilks gets second run with Evo X

Two-time British Rally champion and 2005 Junior World Rally Championship runner-up Guy Wilks will compete in Latvia at the end of next month, when he will again be behind the wheel of the new Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, MML Sports has announced.

Wilks gave the Evo X its debut on the Talsi Rally in May and whilst an exhaust issue compromised the result, that problem has now been resolved. Indeed a 'raft of developments' have been carried out since then with work focusing on the engine, dampers and base shell, which now means it is 20 kg lighter.

Furthermore prior to the Kerzume Rally, which runs from August 28-29, MML Sports plans to conduct two tests - one in the UK and a two to three-day test in Latvia itself immediately before the event, to fine-tune the car's set-up.

"When we debuted the Group N EvoX in May, we knew that there was much more to come from it and we are starting to unlock its true potential now," said MML Sports Ltd managing director John Easton.

"The engine work we have carried out should mean that the car is not only quicker but also easier to drive and combined with the reduced weight, should give a significant improvement in pace. The damper work will also have a big benefit on the handling, which has already been praised by Guy.

"We have chosen the Kurzeme Rally as the next outing because like Talsi, the level of competition will be very high and we need that to demonstrate just how competitive our Group N EvoX is.

"Like Talsi, it was a foregone conclusion to ask Guy to drive the car again, since he gave so much useful feedback on the first event and is extremely quick.

"I hope that this time, we have a clean run and as a team, can show what we know the car is capable of."

MML Sports meanwhile will also be in action before then with reigning Hungarian Rally champion Csaba Spitzmuller, as he will tackle the next round of the 2009 series, the PECS Rally, over the weekend of August 1-2.

The company has been carrying out a development programme on the Mitsubishi Lancer World Rally Car that Spitzi uses and feels that the gains will give him a definite edge.
