I got an e mail this morning to say that he had gone off and from the photos that were included it looks like he just slid out wide to the outside of the bend and rolled down the bank and finished up on his roof about 15ft below the road. I would think that his recce will be interupted and that will possibly deny him a 2nd pass through the Friday stages, for sure it will compromise his preparations. I think Ford were thinking that Danny may go off the road this weekend, but it looks like the Champ could yet be the unlucky one if his notes are not so comprehensive. I just hope that the Rally goes well and no one gets hurt coz the conditions look to be simular to the extreemly tricky 1996 rally

Steve,

I sleep in my Astramax van every year now since 2003 - very comfy and surprisingly warm if you splash out on a pricey sleeping bag. The wind and rain however are VERY disturbing. Good luck!

Ooops - once upon a time there were only a couple of types of tyre , no pace notes - just arrows giving an indication of the severity of bends - plus all types of surface as one toured most of the British Isles - but there again the winners were the chaps with car control , adaptability and stamina. The service crews could lash a car together in 5 mins .Plus spectating was free . Those were the days .

wow, everyone is obviously getting excited about the weekend, I can't wait either, its going to be fun, there will be lots of Bacon butties, mince pies and hot tea and coffee, lots of wooly gloves and bobble hats and exciting driving from the drivers. I think this makes for a really good event when the conditions are like this. I remember 1993, that was the best R.A.C Rally, I only wish I had done it that year coz it looked so much fun especially up North where the snow was much deeper with snow banks. But It was fun following it and sleeping (more like freezing) in the car in the forest overnight. The athmosphere was fantastic and everyone was having a ball !!!

To many Tarmac stages, Rallying has become to mmuch like road racing with not enough rough road stages and bad weather.

Excellent! This is what real rallying is all about, none of this mommy-coddling ''everything must be perfect we are superstars'' attitude. When the rally starts proper this will separate the men from the boys..
