I totaly agree with Richards and Quesnel/Loeb, there should be an emergency tire, GB and Argentina saw crews on the "wrong tires". I think there could be a super short stud for "icy conditions only" so we dont wreck the gravel stages, maybe like Canadians have on "winter road car tires". The reason by the way that Hafren 1 and 2 was cancelled was apparently because the safety cars couldnt get through. I cant help wondering how we managed in 1988/1993 and 1996 when we had snow/Ice. The event should of been better prepared. Also I think that the F.I.A need to re think the majority of todays WRC rules, Its my opinion that they are choking our beloved sport and its making us look silly at times.

dafydd, in a way i agree with you. the rally was moved into december, and the poor conditons should have been expected. when it was earlier, i always asociated the rally with the onset of icy/snowy conditions. i do think that the drivers should be able to drive on a suitable all-weather tyre, but if the tyre manufacturer does not provide such a tyre, then a rethink is required. maybe an emergency tyre as you suggest, and available to all.

primadonnas used to be in the history, not any longer. Whats wrong with driving according to the conditions? What he is saying, and the rest of them, is that if we cant go full speed there is something wrong with the regulations. I just dont agree. Gravel or ice crews is one part of the solution, but what about the amateurs competing? Anyhow, if the FIA is not careful, they will have another F1 on their hands.

I agree in part with Jan in that we do not want to be like F1, WRC is contravercial enought right now, but I think its quite simple e.g. one organisers gravel crew for all competitors with free and easy access to the info, its not difficult to locate areas and add in a caution of bad ice in the notes, everyone has either route or pace notes and it means that everyone is on an even playing field. A super short 1mm stud on a gravel tire that could be available to all would be a leap forward in the rules and better than no option at all. I quite liked the Rally with Frost and Ice, Skill in tough conditions and raw speed from our top drivers enables us to showcase our sport to the whole world.

I'm sorry guys but i don't agree with Quesnel/Richard/Loeb...

There shoulsd be let like that!! If u were in GB this wkend, it was really really exciting.... Many side ways, flamboyant drives even Loeb did it.....

And apparently no .....accidents....sorry Chris it's a flowing rally like New zealand, ...so it's not conditions.....

And further more it'æs an opportunity to other teams like suzuki to be up the order at the moment.....

next time in such conditions u can see a young guy like Mad Østberg win the rally....

So full blessing to the tyre....

.....
i meant chris crashs out even if it's a fast and flowing rally like New zealand, so it's not the conditions or the tyre.....

I was talking to Mikko in Service HQ about Chris' crash and when I asked him where he had gone off and why, he told me that Chris had gone off about 600 metres into the stage just before the first corner at the end of a straight on sheet ice and that chris had been a passenger, then later on we were looking at some pictures and I think Chris and Stephanne were lucky not of been seriously injured. So it is my strong opinion that something should change. A small 1mm stud like road cars have in cold countries wouldn't give any major grip, but would give some grip on dangerous sheet ice without damaging the road, hence still requiring the drivers to use all their skill to put in quick times.

dafydd, sorry for late post, BUT, a number of drivers had been on the same section before, includding petter (i presume) so how on earth did atkinson not know about the ice? i doubt that anyone else, including the amateurs, went off here. so it is not the stud that is important, but the drivers knowledge and ability. atkinson has always been a bit reckless.

I do not agree with the concept of a single manufacturer being annointed to provide one "super" tyre. I believe it was a better competition when we were allowed the privilidge of seeing Michelin vs Pirelli vs Dunlop etc. The teams and drivers need to be able to make *some* equipment choices - as well as tactics and approach - and sometimes they get it right.
I agree that perhaps there need to be limits which assist in affordablility but we are giving up too much with this "one size fits all" mentality.
What next - a single engine manufacturer to go with the limited range of gearboxes etc.? Quelle horreur (sp!)
Bring back the competition...
