Britain's Matthew Wilson has said that he is feeling confident prior to Rally Poland this week, the eighth round in this year's World Rally Championship and the final event before the WRC's summer hiatus.

Wilson posted some promising times on the Acropolis two weeks ago, with top-six results on 10 of the 12 stages that he contested competitively, and while the overall result itself was disappointing - due to an oil pressure problem that put him out on SS2 - it was still a positive weekend.

Indeed the youngster is now looking to put in another strong run and with his co-driver Scott Martin having competed on Rally Poland in 2007 with Barry Clark, that extra experience could prove very beneficial - especially as the Mikolajki-based event is new to the WRC and an unknown quantity for virtually all of the drivers.

"I think that Rally Poland is going to be a big challenge but I am really looking forward to it," said the Stobart Ford man. "It is going to be quite tough. There will be some fast stages like in Finland but also some quite narrow and technical stages.

"It is great that Scott has done it before and he knows what to expect; that should be a big help to us.

"The last day of the Acropolis Rally went really well so we are feeling confident going into this rally. We have got a test on Monday so that will give us plenty of opportunity to perfect the set-up."

Ford/M-Sport boss, Malcolm Wilson, who said that his son had stepped it up a gear in Greece, is also hopeful Matt can deliver a fine result.

"Scott's experience in Poland in 2007 should be a great help to the team. Matthew and Henning [Solberg] had their share of problems at the Acropolis Rally, but they demonstrated resilience in putting those behind them. Their stage wins proved the kind of pace that they both are capable of," he added.

"Matthew posted top-six times on ten stages in Greece, and I am sure that he will be able to maintain that performance in Poland and get the good finish that his consistency merits," he concluded.
