As planned, MotoGP 'Slide King' Garry McCoy made his World Superbike debut at Valencia today (Thursday), on the NCR Ducati 999R he will campaign in next year's championship.
Unfortunately for the Aussie, there was no chance to make an immediate impact against a depleted line-up โ led by DFX Ducati's Steve Martin โ since he is still recovering from an arm injury, sustained during practice for the Bologna Supermoto race.
Instead, the former Red Bull Yamaha and Kawasaki rider completed just five laps as he played with basic bike set-up โ and nursed his arm.
"It's great to get the ride," said Garry of his Superbike move. "I was open to most offers but the deal with NCR just came together easily. I'm looking forward to being on a competitive bike and the WSB paddock seems a fair bit more relaxed than MotoGP."
Providing his arm is okay, McCoy is hoping to put in some more serious laps tomorrow (Friday).
