Ellison 'ecstatic' with Donington wild-card

James Ellison says he is using the performance of Tom Sykes at Brands Hatch last weekend as a positive sign ahead of his World Superbike wild-card at Donington Park.

Ellison will join HM Plant duo Cal Crutchlow and Leon Haslam in flying the British flag at next month's 'European' round of the World Superbike Championship after receiving a wild-card entry.

Riding the same Hydrex Bike Animal Honda he has raced all season, Ellison will resume his rivalry with former MotoGP counterparts Carlos Checa and Max Biaggi around the circuit he qualified second at in British Superbikes earlier this season.

Furthermore, having seen BSB rival Sykes showing well on the world stage at Brands Hatch, Ellison is confident he can prove equally as competitive.

"When the news came through that I was going to be riding in WSB at Donington, I was ecstatic!" he said. "Everyone saw how competitive Tom Sykes was at Brands and he and I have had many good dices this year in BSB so hopefully that bodes well for us to get a good result."

i''ve no doubts that James is physically and mentally fit enough for the longer races, but he needs to do some long runs in practise to get used to handling the tyres for five or so laps longer than the average BSB race.

if he can beat muggeridge, lavilla and walker then it''s a cracking effort. if he can beat sofu and challenge checa and even kiyo (on another very familiar circuit) then that shows you just how good a team hydrex bike animal are.
