Laconi set to leave Kawasaki

Régis Laconi has revealed he is unlikely to be riding for PSG-1 Kawasaki in 2009 as he seeks a more competitive berth towards the front of the field.

Laconi, a multiple race winner at World Superbike level, is in his third season with 'Team Green', but is currently in the midst of his worst year yet as he languishes down in 18th position overall.

Indeed, Laconi, who has scored just one point in the last eight races, is frustrated that his season has gotten steadily worse as he struggles to find a solution to the Kawasaki's set-up problems.

As such, the Frenchman is looking elsewhere for 2009, claiming that he knows he is capable of riding up at the front of the grid provided he has the right package beneath him.

“I don't know what my plans for 2009, but I am sure I won't be staying here,” he revealed to Crash.net Radio. “I have been in the team for three years and it isn't going the way I wanted it to. I am really happy with the people working for me, but I need to change from here.

“This isn't going like I want it to be because I have won races on good bikes before. I thought the new bike was getting better but we are still too far at the back for me. I want to find a solution to get at the front because I am still riding well and I know what I can do.”

Asked where he would like to ride in 2009, Laconi replied that he is in talks with several teams about the number of seats currently available on next year's provisional grid.

Even so, he pointed out that he has been in talks with Ducati, probably over Ruben Xaus' place at Sterilgarda, as well as Yamaha.

“I cannot say too much, but where there is not a rider, I am speaking with the team! I have a solution in almost every place, such as Ducati and Yamaha, but we still need to decide. I just want a solution because I need a bike to help me get good results because we aren't doing that at the moment and I don't like it.”

Him and Tamada have had a real torrid year on a obviusly umcompetative bike as the season has progressed. Near the begining we saw Tamada have some great rides including Missano where he was up to 6th in the race before crashing out on the penultimate lap. I hope both him and Tamada get decent rides next year (maybe they can both go to the 2 vacant seats at Yamaha) as Yam will need a Japanese rider who can develop a bike and laconi is a tried and tested Development rider for the new 09 R1 and with the team mate thing sorted it could be a very strong team 2 GP and Superbike winners in 1 team!! Tasty!! :D Go! Go! Tamada and Laconi San :-o
