WSS: McCoy returns for Portimao

Former 500cc and WSBK race winner Garry McCoy will return to World Supersport action, on a Triumph, during the season finale at the new Portimao circuit on November 2.

The Australian 'Slide King' began the 2008 season with Triumph-SC, claiming a sixth place finish at his home Phillip Island round, but has been absent ever since sustaining multiple injuries during a nasty practice accident during round eight, at Brno, on July 19.

McCoy will return to action with the BE1 Triumph team, whose 675 machines he tested at Mugello on Thursday.

"I'm really happy to have the opportunity to ride one of the Triumph Italia BE1 Racing's bikes at Portimao," said Garry. "I really like the machine and I think that Daytona 675 has a big potential, partially unexpressed. That's why, after the test at Mugello, I think that we can finish into the top five.

"The test was useful in order to get a feedback about my physical condition. No problems at all, except a light pain in one rib when I change direction quickly, but I think I'll be ok within fifteen days at Portimao."

"Our goal is to line up three motorbikes at Portimao where we feel confident to have the chances to grab a very good result," explained team manager Giuliano Rovelli. "I'm really glad to have Garry with us, on a new track where all the teams have no point of reference. Garry's big experience will be really helpful to carry on our growth".

BE1 Triumph presently fields Mark Aitchison and Ivan Clementi. Australian Aitchison leads the team's challenge with 14th place in the riders' championship and a best finish of sixth.
