What I can't understand about Ducati Cup comments, is the rules are the same for all manufacturers. So if there is an advantage in building a twin, then the Japenese manufacturers could do so. Remember Ducati do have a 4 cylinder road bike that they could homologate. Aprilia didn't make much of it when they entered a twin, and Honda had a hard time beating Ducati when they built one.

Ducati built a 4 cyclinder GP bike presumably becase they thought it the format most likely to be successful. The results speak for themselves. I suspect that what ever the rules Ducati would still be competitive. I also suspect that Bayliss is an exceptional rider who would also be a front runner on a 4

WSBK » Bayliss fastest as 2008 begins

Former double World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss began 2008 as he means to go on, by taking his new 1098R Ducati to the top of the timesheets during day one of testing at Phillip Island in Australia.

Nice to see the Rules are bring back the ducati cup.

Strange how you never see the 4 cylinder bikes going fastest in there first few tests..

This makes me cry to be honest, if the ducati undeveloped is out in front now the rest might as well not bother.

Damn... if MotoGP didn't use qualifiers, Bayliss would have qualified 11th for the race.

Matty G - Troy corser won a lot of races on the Aprilia, and only tyre trouble prevented him from the chship. HOnda beat ducati twice in 2 years running the v2.

STOP rattling on about tha ducati and the fact its going to walk it... look at the test times theres nout in it, i might also say that the next quickest ducati is 7th down the time sheets so maybe we should give Bayliss his dues and not put it all down to the bike but its how good bayliss is,,,,,

Facts:

Although Bayliss has set the pace on both days his best lap is still 0.4 seconds outside Troy Corser's 2007 lap record and a massive 1.5 seconds slower than his personal best lap set in testing 12 months ago onboard the Ducati 999. :)
