Nice to see Giovanni back. There''s a great morale to this story, though: his subs for Honda started after he helped Chris Vermeulen get back to the pits after the latter had crashed (?) in one of the crucial races for the 04 (or 05?) championship. Although Bussei was dumped by Kawasaki after that season, Ten Kate Honda and its affiliates have not forgotten, and have asked Giovanni to sub for them on several occasions. So to quote Eek the Cat: it never hurts to help (and it''s really nice to see that this is appreciated even in a comeptitive world like WSBK). Good luck to him!

Following Jake Zemke's withdraw, Giovanni Bussei has been 'reinstated' as Roberto Rolfo's replacement for this weekend's Monza round of the World Superbike Championship.

didn't he get some sort of special award that years for his sportsmanship?
I'm sure he was penalised for giving Vermuelen that lift back to the pits hence why Ten Kate were so grateful to him. It's rare to see that sort of thing nowadays...

Giovanni is one of racing's genuine nice guys. Despite being heavily strapped, he even signed an autograph for my son on a piece of his own broken fairing after taking a big tumble in practice at Brands a few years ago.

Good luck "Mr Tassles", you always bring a bit of extra colour to a race!

If my memory is correct, Vermin' crashed on the warm up lap for the tital deciding race. Bussei-even though he knew he would start from the back of the grid, AND having qualified his personal best- stopped and gave Vermin' a lift back for spare bike. I'm not sure but I think Bussei charged through the field like a loon and got fastest lap of the race!!
Bloody good show!! :-o
