Jeff says "it should have a few exciting races and reignite WSBK as it was getting a little old and dull"
I say,are you having a fecking joke or what lol? Do you watch WSB on a regular basis? If you did (and i'm not having a go even if it sounds like i am) then your opinion might be somewhat different. Did you watch the last round with Nori racing Biaggi and then racing Troy Bayliss in the next race. How about the Monza races? 0.058 was the margin in the first race and 0.009 was the margin in the 2nd. There 30 or more bikes on the grid depending on wild cards, not to mention how may there will be next year. IMHO WSB is where it is at entertainment-wise, can't wait till next year..even better

Ben Spies confirms he won't defend AMA Superbike crown in 2009 as it looks likely he is heading for the World Superbike series.

Mladin made more money in AMA than a good part of the WSBK grid combined, probably. But it was disappointing to see him pass up a wild card ride for Suzuki in MotoGP several years ago. Judging by his performance at a new track, Utah, he might have done the right thing.

"Mladin bottled it and wouldnt play with the big boys."

Hehe, I believe Mladin turned up at a WSBK Phillips Island test one year. Set the fastest time by a good margin then went home again. I think money might be a big factor of why he stays in the US.

Great news Spies is comming to WSBK though, he was clearly too good for a domestic series, looking forward to see how he cuts it on the world stage.

Mladin turned up at Laguna to race in WSBK and got beaten in the first race and decided not to take part in the second race which was a very poor showing.

I''ve already read somewhere that he is set to join Yamaha in place of Haga.

It's great news Spies is heading to WSBK.

I wonder if Pedrosa had something to do with Honda not supplying JiR with a bike for 2009 in fear Spies might show him up.

Good luck to Spies in 2009 - I hope he is with Yamaha Italia. Re Mladin - the year he didn't run at Laguna in race 2 he was suffering from a virus and had already completed 2 AMA races. The time he was 0.2 faster than Corser in a test at Phillip Island he used a prototype Dunlop MotoGP tyre. His bike was a slower spec than Corsers, but he wasn't riding on Pirellis. Despite his assurance that he wasn't trying to beat Corser he fell off shortly before setting his fast time. Mladin had his chance in GP's too young and wasn't mature enough. I'm sure Spies will do well - he has a wise head on young shoulders. Vive World Superbikes :)

Guys before you slag off Mat Mladin too much go to superbikeplanet.com. In the features tag you'll find an old (1997) story about Mladin - "A man named Mladin". It's a biography really, but form before he made it big in USA. That will shed some insight into why he doesn't feel the need to go to MotoGP or WSBK at this time in his life. It really is a great read.

It'll be interesting to see how Spies reacts to having his ass handed to him on a weekly basis, each time by a different one of the top ten guys in the paddock. For sure, a different game than the one he's grown accustomed to playing, over the past few years.

I'm with the majority on this. IMO Spies is probably the best American superbike rider and has been for some time now. I have no doubt he will compete very hard in WSBK and show Suzuki why they made a big mistake in letting him go.
