What a true Champion and RACER ! Ducati nearly blew it all with their mismanagement of Bayliss MotoGP adventure. Now,he leaves with the best feeling and a great legacy - truly the greatest WSBK rider ever.I also just love it that he had the rare opportunity to come back and chin-check the MotoGP boys with that stunning victory at Valencia in 2006.Biaggi would shave his goatee for THAT chance ! Farewell Troy Bayliss,a true Desmodromic Saint !

well done to Bayliss,a great rider and great human being, but the best superbike rider???,i dont think so.
Have you forgotten Fogerty, 3x F1 world champion road racer,( races include the TT and North West ) and 4x WSK.Bayliss is not in the same league as Foggy.
But im a huge fan of Bayliss and its a shame he is retiring. Also its a shame he never tried another superbike, like Honda or Yamaha,so he has had the best of it in the Ducati World Superbike Championship.Really he should have won many more titles with the advantage hes had.Beaten by Edwards, beaten by Toseland too.

:) :) :) :)
Bayliss is brilliant - end of.

He really wanted to beat his replacement and did it in style.

If only Ducati would run a third bike for him in MotoGP next year, he could add a MotoGP title as well to his CV, he's that good - just dreaming!!

Wonder what Dovi would make of a scrap with Bayliss and Haga? :?

Foggy might have been more prolific, but he's a miserable self-centered rat-faced git and yes, an outstanding but unloved bike racer. Bayliss is the opposite: endearing, humble, modest, blindingly quick and such a lovable bloke. You NEVER hear any excuses out of Bayliss. If he loses, he always congratulates the winner. And I'm a brit!

The only shame is that he couldn't take his crew to motogp and do what he did at Valencia for 2 seasons. I don't think I'm looking through rose tinted specs to say he cojuld have been a contender. Infact, if he'd been able to take the fight to Vale, he's the only other rider we would have been happy to see beat Rossi in a fair fight.

Bayliss' legendary status is a dead cert. Brilliant racer. When riders in MotoGP moan and whine about problems, look at this guy... as hard as they come, a true "man"'s racer!

Best race I ever saw (in any class EVER) was Edwards and Bayliss in 2002, last race of the season and the championship to be decided. Both guys were ON FIRE... Such a shame Edwards won't retire with quite the same amount of respect as Bayliss... It will be some years before someone else is considered the best WSB rider ever (and yes, I reckon Bayliss tops Foggy and Foggy is a Brit!)

Just then thinking it would be awesome to see Bayliss repeat his 2006 Valencia MotoGP guest ride again this year ( including winning a second time ).

Great rider and great champion!...
Best possible way to finish the season and SBK career. 2Thumbsup. :)

Got to say Simon had a point about Foggy. While I reckon Troy is the better racer it takes real balls
to race at the TT, north west, ulster GP etc, two top riders that I know of killed in Ireland this year one of them being Joey Dunlop's brother Robert a multi winner of TT races.EOSR

Foggy was a great racer.

But I'll bet you Bayliss wont make such a complete tit of himself as Foggy did when he retired! The way he slagged off riders, said he would have beat Doohan, fcuk Petronas was laughable and he went from hero to tool quicker than the Petronas ever could!

It might be marketing but Bayliss seems like a top bloke. All the best to him once he retires! And (touch wood) it's good to see a champ leave in one piece. Well what are little fingers good for anyway! :D
