"an outside title contender" get real guys, this guy was immediately more competitive than the factory Suzuki riders in his GP rides. He has 3 AMA superbike titles and the AMA has produced numerous world champions. ben is a serious title contender and anybody who does not see him as such is sorely under estimating the competition.

patrice - I feel very sorry for Hodgson - He was fastest at the recent tyre test by 1.3 seconds and would have had a good chance in 2009. As he is under contract I presume he will get paid to sit on his hands.

The Yamaha seems to be very competitive at this point in the off season and Spies seems to get to competitive times quickly on tracks he doesn't know.
So far, so good. Let's see how well he does in the next couple of tests.

Early prediction?: He could be top 5.

Looks like it's a gonna be a good year for Yamaha : Rossi in Motogp, Spies without a doubt a very serious contender in WSBK and BBoz in AMA

I've been to an AMA event and can say that there are alot of riders not taking it seriously. Mostly due to the fact that only the factory teams have a vested interest. The AMA series is filled with so many privateers that can barley afford tires. I personally think that the series is a joke.

Hodgeson is a good rider, people forget that in the bayliss edwards season he was the only one to come near them, on a non works ducati. he should be in wsbk instead of a few of the hit and miss riders.

Sure, a lot of moving chicanes in AMA racing, but there are only a half dozen in the front pack in WSBK as well. As to Hodgeson, how many AMA races did he win? I think one in the rain when the front runners fell. Not much of showing for a Champion.
