Wow, Spies did time that to perfection, eh?! It was a good lap but a wee bit lucky there was rain so nobody could challenge, then again, everyone was in the same position. I don't see Spies running away with anything tomorrow though, even with Fab and Haga in 5th and 6th, the Ducati's have been strong all weekend. Bring on the Duke 1-2!

Good on you Shakey, 3rd is a nice result. Hopefully you'll be up there tomorrow but as much as it pains me to say it, I'm not holding my breath. Hope I'm proved wrong, fingers crossed.

Haslam, Camier, et al, I'm disappointed in. Still, tomorrow is the race, not today. Hopefully it'll be a stonker.

WSBK » Spies times it right for Donington pole

A late smattering of rain helps Ben Spies claim an eighth World Superbike pole position of the season at Donington Park, ahead of Max Biaggi and Shane Byrne.

This kid is good stuff. He acts like a veteran racer with his decisions and timing. Bring on the races and the chips fall where they may.

Your kidding yourself if you think this is going to be close. Look at free practice times. Spies was the only one doing consistent 1:30's (9 of them by my count)in race trim. He is on a mission! Only thing that concerns me is Biaggi banzai-ing into turn one and spearing Spies again like he did in Australia!

Not sure what happened to all the wild-cards?

If the rain stays away Ben will do the double tomorrow...if it rains it will be anyone's game.

Quiet credit to Hopkins, 11th and only a tenth off Haslam. Easy to forget he only has a couple races on the bike and his body still all wadded up. Maybe he will do better with a little less attention. Never been too big on him and pole is not the race, but well done. And no doubt Aprilia is coming on a tick closer each week. Fun season how ever it goes.

In any kind of racing, if you ONLY know nationality and have to pick a rider-driver in the rain, you pick a Brit. That said, there is a perception I think, or perhaps it is wishful thinking, that The Ben can't ride the rain. I can tell you that in the USA he sure as heck could. How that translates vs the very high European standard remains to be seen, it is true. It's reported that he has little test time on the wet rubber. Said to be quite a different feel to what he was used to. Here's hoping it -they- are wet races so we find out. Might take more than one weekend to learn the rubber, though. Tip, even in USA, in the wet he was always cautions 1st few laps then slowly built up pace.

Racing in the just doesn't look right. Let's hope for a dry race for at least one of the races.
