It's a shame that Yamaha is having all this success in the midst of a recession. Any other time and bike shops wouldn't be able to keep an R1 or R6 in stock.

Still, I spoke to a dealer recently who told me that R1's are currently the only bike really selling... albiet in small numbers. It's a bad time for everyone.

WSBK » Yamaha to close down title-winning Supersport effort?

According to reports, financial concerns could force Yamaha to close down its title-winning WSS effort - with whom 2010 WSBK graduate Cal Crutchlow clinched the honours this year.

This has been rumoured to happen for months, When it appeared that Stiggy was going to run R1'S next season, the deal was, that they would run the Yamaha factory effort in WSS in return for switching from Honda. Obviously Stiggy motorsports financial woes have sealed the fate on this deal since then.
This was seen that Yamaha would not continue a factory backed WSS team next season no matter what. THIS HAPPENED MONTHS AGO. WHY DO YOU EVEN BOTHER REPORTING ON MOTORBIKES CRASH.NET? THE BBC OF MOTORCYCLING JOURNALISM! :?

I reckon two things related to this news:
first it is about money cuts and eventually put it into WSBK/MotoGP, second fact is that after Suzuki's WSS abandon Yamaha as other factories may look at Moto2 (also 600cc) so WSS may loose its power. Only Kawasaki, Honda and Triumph will fight.

Isn't Yamahas WSS effort actually Yamaha Motor Germany... so cutbacks in Yamaha Motor Itally if they were to hit anyone would be probably the second string Yamaha Lorenzini by Leoni team ?

@Tardozzi
Maybe laverty is on a Ducati in world super bike next year, cause Fonsi Nieto just jumped ship into moto2 along with his cousins with the new spanish G22 Team.

Tardozzi - Eugene Laverty signed with Parkalgar Honda for another year in WSS - this was reported in wednesdays edition of MCN so must have been known on Sunday, but I don't think Crash.Net have reported it yet.

Tardozi and Plymouth

Laverty will be with Parkalgar again next year.

The big question is what machine he will be riding and in what series.

The outfit is considering three proposals, sticking with Honda in WSS with more backing from Honda Europe, switching to Yamahas R6s with factory backing, following the withdraw of official team as reported or the switch to WSBK, without factory support in that case.

Now that was really dumb.

Where is yamaha's benefit to drop SS where they are showcasing their bread and butter 600cc bike and beating the rest hands down to instead run Moto2 with someone else's engine?

That was really friggin' dumb.

I can see them cutting costs because of the economy but switching efforts to design a whole new bike and run honda engines doesn't make any sense when they're having the time of their life in WSBK.
