Haslam hints at new Stiggy deal

Leon Haslam says he is happy to pledge his future to the Stiggy Racing team following a magnificent return to the World Superbike Championship paddock in 2009.

Following four seasons racing in the British Superbike Championship, Haslam made the switch back to the world stage this season to join Johan Stigefelt's Supersport graduating team.

Success was immediate, Haslam scoring a podium on his first outing at Phillip Island before securing his best finish at WSBK level at Assen a few rounds later. Although problems in recent races have seen him slip to sixth in the overall standings, Haslam is delighted with his season thus far.

It means he is prepared to continue with Stiggy, even if they alter their own plans for 2010 regarding which manufacturer they will be competing with.

“I am really happy with the team,” he told Crash.net Radio. “For the first year they have done wonders and if I can stay with the team and use the data we have gathered, that will be more beneficial than anything.

“It is a bit undecided where to go as a team because others have shown interest, so I am concentrating on my riding and getting some good results. We still want to win a world championship round and that is what we want to get at Donington Park.”

Indeed, having ended the opening day of competition at Donington Park in a provisional second position, Haslam is confident he can challenge for that maiden victory this weekend.

“Phillip Island and Assen were circuits I knew well and I got podiums there. In Assen we could have got a win, so there is no reason why we can't be up there here. After the day first day, I am pretty happy.”
