Cal Crutchlow is promising to relax before he takes to the track once again at Donington Park after managing to shrug off two large accidents for a dominant World Supersport pole position.

The Yamaha rider, already nursing a broken ankle and bruised arm from practice, found himself losing further time when he crashed during qualifying at McLeans. Picking himself up and returning to the pit lane, Crutchlow returned to the circuit to immediately resume his pole position battle with Eugene Laverty and Joan Lascorz.

While errors and traffic seemingly transferred the momentum towards title rival Laverty, a superb last gasp effort from Crutchlow was enough to claim the top spot by more than half a second.

With the race now coming up, Crutchlow insists he will take it easy ahead of what is anticipated to be another thrilling exchange with Laverty.

“It was a good enough for me to take pole. I went down in the session which was disappointing but other than that it was a good job. I think I could have gone a bit quicker to be honest but I was unlucky with other riders and the crash obviously held me up a bit!

“I'm going to relax now for the day and hopefully come out tomorrow fighting. Eugene is going to be a big threat again tomorrow so let's see what happens.”
