Spies leads Yamaha 1-2 in warm-up

Ben Spies and Tom Sykes made it a dominant Yamaha 1-2 during morning warm-up ahead of the ninth World Superbike Championship round at Donington Park.

With cloudy, but dry, conditions signalling the start of race day, Spies and Sykes were in dominant form throughout the 20 minute session, swapping positions before the pole sitter got the edge with a time of 1min 30.376secs.

With Sykes following in 1min 30.723secs, they were the only riders to dip below the 1min 31secs benchmark.

Jakub Smrz continued his strong form around Donington, ahead of factory Ducati Xerox riders Noriyuki Haga and Michel Fabrizio.

British riders filled the next three positions, with Leon Haslam in sixth place, while Leon Camier got plenty of laps in on his rebuilt Airwaves Yamaha R1 to go an encouraging seventh. Jonathan Rea was eighth.

Shinya Nakano and John Hopkins completed the top ten positions.

The opening race of the weekend will take place at 12.00GMT
