PSG-1 Corse have announced that they are to withdraw from the World Superbike Championship with immediate effect.

The team made their debut in the series in 2003 as a privateer Ducati entry before becoming Kawasaki's official factory entrant between 2005 and 2008.

However, while they experienced a victory with Chris Walker at a rain-lashed Assen in 2006, success has been fairly limited since then and after losing their Kawasaki contract to Paul Bird Motorsport at the end of 2008, PSG-1 reverted back to privateer status.

Starting the season with a pair of year-old Kawasakis for Matteo Baiocco and Ayrton Badovini, the team were reduced to just one machine for Baiocco from Assen onwards, while the decision was taken to skip the two flyaway races at Kyalami and Miller Motorsports Park.

In addition, PSG-1 were not present at Donington Park and now the decision has been taken to withdraw from the series, citing the current economic climate as the reason.

PSG-1 are the second team this season to quit the World Superbike Championship, following on from Pro Ride Honda, which didn't make the opening round.
