Having eased to pole position for the sprint event, Neel Jani did it again when deciding grid positions for the A1 Grand Prix feature race at Sepang, yet this time he did it with a gap of almost a second over his rivals.

His fourth pole position around the Malaysian circuit in four attempts, this one will probably go down as one of the finest qualifying efforts seen in A1 GP yet as Jani flexed his inspiration around Sepang's twists and turns.

Indeed, Jani was never topped throughout the day, going fastest in the first of the two mini-sessions to decide the grid positions for the feature race. Even then, that lap was good enough to cement another pole position for Switzerland, as their rivals got near but not close enough to overhauling them.

Nonetheless, seemingly just to make sure, Jani completed one final lap and, in the knowledge that he could push, showed off his true speed around the circuit to end the session almost a second faster than anyone else.

While Jani will likely take some beating in the races, Oliver Jarvis will at least have a go when he lines up alongside him for Great Britain.

Just behind, debutant Michael Ammermuller was doing his bit to persuade the German team that he should be their permanent driver with an impressive run to third on the grid. That placed him ahead of the ever-reliable France, while Netherlands managed to up the ante to qualify fifth.

Brazil look strong this weekend, Sergio Jimenez sixth on the grid for Brazil to produce their best qualifying performance since Raphael Matos in Beijing last year.

After appearing outside the top ten during qualifying for the sprint race, Adam Carroll looked more comfortable for Ireland to go seventh, ahead of China, South Africa and New Zealand, the latter of which not looking nearly as good as they did in Brno.

Other disappointments included Canada, with Robert Wickens a frustrating 12th having qualified fifth for the sprint race, and also Malaysia again, who improved only slightly to 15th for their home race.
