Nominated drivers revealed

A1GP has revealed the nominated drivers for the opening rounds of the 2008/09 season this weekend at Zandvoort.

A total of 17 teams will take part in the opening rounds, with six being forced to sit out the weekend after delays in the build of the new Powered by Ferrari car.

Great Britain, India, Mexico, Canada and Germany had already confirmed that they wouldn't make the Netherlands race weekend but Pakistan have now been added to the list – having previously been regarded as definites to be there.

The five teams who had been racing against time to make the opening round all feature, which means that Switzerland will be able to start the defence of its crown in round one.

The team received its chassis this week but was unable to prepare it in time for this weekend's season opener. However, another chassis became available at the eleventh hour, allowing Max Welti's squad to make the weekend.

“I'm not really worried because all of the cars are identical anyway,” driver Neel Jani said. “Even if our car had been ready, I would have needed some time to get used to it anyway because I haven't had any testing before the event. But it's great to be competing this weekend at Zandvoort, and I'll give it everything I've got.”
