A1GP » What is the real situation regarding A1GP..?

There have been all manner of rumours flying around regarding the health of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport in recent months, with doubts about whether the first event of the 2009/10 season - scheduled to be held at Surfers Paradise next weekend - will even take place. So what is the real situation just nine days from round one..?

Has anyone asked where the tyres are for the cars? Still in europe i hear and as far as i know there are none of the type needed in australia... just one of a hundred reasons to show the a1 crew are not coming...

Lets face it - who needs the A1GP anyway - just look at the successes of Bathhurst last week and even Townsville this year - everyone wants to watch the home grown V8s. I am sure that the revenue generated from the spectators wanting to watch the V8 supercars will cover any costs and still make a tidy profit for Queensland through the tourism etc.

@Keith

No doubt the supercars are the main attraction.
To me it is a matter of principal. A1GP through Alan Jones put their hand up for this event and has been promoted accordingly with our V8s taking a step back until event weekend.Supporters of Motorsport have purchased tickets to this event with the understanding they would be enjoying the full experience as advertised and are still doing so on this understanding. If questions did not begin some 24 hours ago us Aussies would have been none the wiser except for those with a deep interest in the sport as a whole.
Whilst the supercars can cater for the weekend if need be A1GP should be the ones to make apology to the Aust public

Here comes plan B:
V8 SUPERCARS boss Tony Cochrane has promised he will "bust my guts" to salvage this year's Super GP. Confronted with almost eight hours of "dead" track time with the expected withdrawal of the A1GP, Cochrane was last night in crisis talks with Super GP officials and the Queensland government as they searched for a plan B. The Daily Telegraph understands V8 Supercars officials are considering the following options:
ADDING a third V8 Supercar race to the schedule
EXTENDING the two 200km races to 300km races and
CALLING on one of their support categories (V8 Utes, Fujitsu series) to be added to the line up.

What a farce! A1 have kept everyone dangling all summer with the on/off stories. The cars are untouched since being boxed up after the last race at Brands in May. Some with serious crash damage. The chances of them being freighted to Oz, prepped, the modifications done, tested and on track for next weekend....less than zero i'd say.
I feel sorry for the fans who've bought tickets in good faith, but now face the prospect of two 300km instead of 200km monotonous V8 supercar races (I'd loose the will to live personally). Aside from that, spare a thought for the A1 team mechanics etc many of who'm will probably be getting their P45's in their wages in the next few days.

The whole outlook from the A1Gp side is pretty poor and any credibility they did have left has disappeared.
What they have in effect done have discredited Motorsport overall with their actions.
Employees and creditors you have my apologies from a concerned Aussie Motorsport supporter.
Hopefully the Administrator will find a way for funds to be released to satisfy your needs.
