Jarvis makes solid Porsche debut

Oliver Jarvis made his Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain debut at a rainy Donington Park, scoring an eighth and a fifth place finish from the double-header meeting behind the wheel of the #1 Guest Driver Porsche 911 entry.

Jarvis, who led A1 Team Great Britain to its maiden A1GP victory in Mexico City in March, had earlier accepted the invitation to race the 400bhp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car and proved his competitiveness early on by setting the second fastest lap time in the test day prior to the weekend's track activities set for Donington Park's 1.957-mile National Circuit.

Having qualified fifth overall on Saturday morning, the 23-year-old Burwell racer went on to finish eighth in the 23-lap race meeting later that same day. Sunday's race looked like it might throw an added challenge at the single-seater ace with heavy rain affecting most of the day's events.

Conditions improved prior to the start of Oliver's second-ever 'tin-top' race and the 2006 British F3 Runner-Up went on to score a fifth place finish.

“It was certainly hard work,” the current Japanese Formula 3 driver said. “The car is obviously far heavier than a single-seater so you have to brake a lot earlier. That was probably the single biggest issue I had to contend with over the weekend, it's such a massive difference to what I'm used to.

“That said I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the car was great in the corners. I knew it would be a tough meeting and my lack of experience certainly counted against me but I'd definitely love another chance to race this kind of car and show what I can do!”
