Jarvis gets nod for season opener

A1 Team Great Britain has confirmed that Oliver Jarvis will contest the opening round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport at Zandvoort next month.

Jarvis, who took the team's first ever win in Mexico last season, will complete the two races in the Netherlands before handing over to Robbie Kerr, who will take his place for the Czech Republic rounds at Brno.

With both drivers in action at the official A1GP pre-season test at Silverstone the team is working through a thorough development programme to ensure they will be running at the front of the pack when the season begins – with the focus firmly on fighting for championship honours.

"I can't wait to race for A1 Team GBR again; particularly as I think this season will be the most competitive yet,” he said. “ I'm delighted to have been chosen to drive in the opening round of the 07/08 A1GP season at Zandvoort in September. Having been at the race last season in the rookie driver role and seeing the fantastic atmosphere there I can't wait to go back as the race driver and get the season off to a good start for A1 Team GBR. I'd like to thank the team for giving me the opportunity and look forward to repaying their faith."

Team-mate Kerr admits he can't wait for the new season to kick off, adding that he was hopeful that the solid finish to the 06/07 campaign can be carried through to the new season.

"I'm really looking forward to the new A1GP season starting and racing the British car again,” he said. “I last competed at Brands Hatch back in April which was a fantastic event, definitely enhanced by the vocal British crowd supporting the team. We were strong last season, particularly towards the end, and I think we can look forward to a tremendous year ahead; carrying on from where we left off last season straight away.

“I'm sure we will be amongst the teams to beat and we'll be aiming to score some serious points at the first two races. Brno will be my first race of the 07/08 season; unfortunately last time there we lost our fastest lap time in qualifying due to a technical infringement which dropped us to the fifth row of the grid, which was disappointing. However we will definitely go there looking to have a better showing than last year and show our true speed."
