Winslow eschews Bathurst shot for Team GBR.

James Winslow has passed up the chance to return to the Bathurst 12 Hours in order to keep his name in the frame for a possible race outing with Team GBR.

The Briton has been a stalwart in the squad for the past year, but has yet to progress beyond reserve and rookie duties, even when regular 2009 pilot Danny Watts opted not to travel to New Zealand last month in order to be at the birth of his first child.

On that occasion, with Winslow hoping to finally receive the call to add to Team GBR's points tally, former Champ Car racer Dan Clarke was summoned to replace Watts, although Winslow did get to run the opening session on Friday to help set up the Ferrari-built car for the newcomer.

The reigning Australian F3 champion also played his part on race day, however, taking over the role of front jackman at the team's pit-stops to help cover for illness and absences.

Now, with Watts recalled to the fray for the A1GP Series' first visit to former grand prix circuit Kyalami - having used a street circuit in Durban for previous South African outings - Winslow found himself having to decide between racing in one of Australia's more prestigious touring car events or playing a supporting role once again for his home country.

"I could have taken the opportunity to race against a lot of the V8 Supercar drivers at Bathurst - which could have been good for my future ambitions," Winslow told Crash.net, " but Team GBR wanted me to remain as back-up to Danny in South Africa, so it was a tough choice to make. I really want to show what I can do in the A1GP car, however, so I'm heading for Gauteng."
