A1 Team Germany has announced that Andre Lotterer will make his debut in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport this weekend in Portugal.

The former Jaguar Formula One test driver will return to Europe having spent recent seasons competing in Japan and will take over at the wheel from Michael Ammermuller, who competed in South Africa in what was the first race meeting of the season for the former champions.

Ammermuller will still be present in the Algarve this weekend in a supporting role.

"It's a great opportunity for me to come back to international racing as I have been competing for six years in Japan," Lotterer told the official series website. "I am coming here with big motivation to be part of A1 Team Germany and I really want to thank them for giving me this opportunity. Hopefully I won't disappoint them.

"I was at Zandvoort earlier this season and I saw the cars racing and it looks great. The car looks nice, the quality is very professional so I am going to see how if feels driving behind the wheel.

"No matter what, you always try to win. But for us it's probably a bit difficult because it's our second race in this car so the team is a bit behind on knowledge, but it seems to be the same for everybody.

"But from what I have seen from the team and people working on it, they are good guys so there shouldn't be any reason why we can't do a good job. It's my first time so I'm not expecting amazing things but I will for sure fight."
