Bleekemolen paces Brands Hatch practice

Jeroen Bleekemolen secured the quickest time in final free practice for the A1GP season finale at Brands Hatch, despite an incident restricting the Dutchman to just five flying laps.

Bleekemolen posted a quickest time of 1min 12.804secs for the Netherlands during the session but then suffered a spin into the gravel trap at Druids, which forced him to sit out the remainder of the final session before qualifying.

“I was just pushing a little bit too hard,” he said. “I had some oversteer and I made a mistake. I was trying to find limits and the tyres are getting older but I made a mistake. But I won't get distracted by this. We should be strong for this afternoon.”

There was a surprise behind Bleekemolen in second place, as Satrio Hermanto made the most of his PowerBoost to post the second quickest time – less than a tenth of a second off the pace. JR Hildebrand was third quickest ahead of his debut for the United States while Narain Karthikeyan was fourth despite bringing out the red flags when he went off at the final corner.

Clivio Piccione was fifth for Monaco, ahead of championship hopefuls Neel Jani, Filipe Albueuqerque and Adam Carroll – who filled out the top eight.
