Winslow keen to race in 2008-09 A1GP.

James Winslow has admitted that he has one eye on racing in this year's A1 Grand Prix series, having earned himself a recall to Team GBR ahead of next weekend's second round in China.

The new Kumho Tyres Australian F3 champion made his A1 Grand Prix debut with Team GBR in the 2007-08 campaign, running in the 'rookie' sessions for emerging young drivers, but, despite neither of the team's erstwhile regulars - Robbie Kerr and Oliver Jarvis - being involved this year, will begin the fourth season of A1GP by providing back-up to race veteran Danny Watts.

Watts brings experience of the series' new car to Team GBR, having been able to test the new-for-2008 machine during its development phase, while Winslow will be getting his first taste of the 600-horsepower V8-engined car, which is designed around Ferrari's 2004 F1 title-winning chassis, when he hits the track at Chengdu next weekend.

The combination of Watts and Winslow will be especially crucial to Team GBR's campaign as the squad was forced to miss the opening round of the season at Zandvoort last month due to a delay in the supply of its equipment, and has had precious little track time leading into its first race. Although A1GP organisers have adjusted the scoring system to allow each team to drop its worst score, the British squad will have to post strong results at every round if it is to improve on the third overall that it has managed in previous seasons.

“I'm very pleased to have been invited back to drive for Team GBR in its fourth season in A1 Grand Prix,” Winslow commented, “They are a great group of people and I'm looking forward to helping them get up to speed with the new car as quickly as possible.”

Winning his final race in the Australian F3 season, at the recent high-profile IndyCar Series event at Surfers Paradise, Winslow heads to Chengdu with confidence, and is looking forward to getting his hands on the A1GP's F1 technology.

“The new car looks fantastic,” he confirmed, “A1GP should be congratulated on bringing such a great car – and the Ferrari name – into the series, and I can't wait to get behind the wheel for the first time on Friday at Chengdu.

“Although we're starting the season behind some of the other teams that have had their cars for some time, I am sure that with Danny's experience of the current car and my experience of A1GP from last season, we can get Team GBR up at the front of the field and challenging for wins.

“Naturally, I hope to get the chance to be challenging for those wins myself at some point in the season but, until then, I aim to do whatever I can to help the team get up to speed.”
