New Zealand names van der Drift.

A1 Team New Zealand has revealed that Formula Master champion Chris Van der Drift will be at the wheel of 'Black Beauty' for the second round of the season at Chengdu this weekend.

Van der Drift drove the new Powered by Ferrari in pre-season testing earlier in the year but was unable to race at Zandvoort due to his FMaster commitments.

As a result, Earl Bamber was given his chance to shine in the opening rounds and helped New Zealand to an early third place in the championship standings thanks to a double podium finish.

However, Van der Drift will now get his chance to impress although he admitted he would need to learn the Chinese circuit as quickly as possible.

"I've been looking on the internet at some videos of the track,” he said. “It looks pretty tight and twisty in places!

"Driving the GP2 car has been good preparation for the weekend. The cars are similar in style, they're both big cars."
