Adam Carroll admitted he was thrilled to secure a first feature race pole for A1 Team Ireland in qualifying for the third round of the A1GP season at Sepang.
Fresh from a first win of the year in China last time out, Carroll was able to qualify in a solid seventh place for the sprint race but then made the most of the PowerBoost joker to storm to pole position for the feature race.
His lap of 1min 47.124secs was quicker than the sprint race pole lap posted by Neel Jani and was good enough to head off the challenge of Danny Watts in the battle for top spot.
"That was my first pole for the feature race and I wanted that one badly," he said. "It was quite a good lap but obviously there is the PowerBoost and that's when I chose to use it."
However, Carroll admitted that conditions at the Sepang circuit weren't making things easy, with the hot and humid weather making it a challenge in the car.
"It's going to be hot tomorrow, so we will be even redder and sweatier," he said. "There is not much you can do in England to prepare for temperatures like this, not only is it hot but it's really humid and that what makes it quite difficult."
