Italian teenage revelation Mirko Bortolotti has been rewarded for his star turn in a Ferrari F1 trial with a chance to test the company's A1GP car in Portugal next month.
The Italian Formula 3 Champion hit the headlines recently when he broke the Fiorano lap record during testing with Ferrari, a prize given to him for winning the national championship.
His performance has since earned him the chance to drive the Ferrari powered and inspired A1GP test car at the Portimao circuit in the Algarve on 10-13 January, an opportunity their operations director Mario Almondo was delighted to offer to Bortolotti.
“We are extremely happy that a young Italian driver who won the Italian Formula 3 Championship, and has shown his talent in a test day with the Ferrari F1 car, can have a such a good opportunity with A1GP.”
It remains to be seen whether Bortolotti will drive the A1GP Team Italy car, currently driven by Edoardo Piscopo, one of the drivers he beat to the Italian F3 title.
