Carroll at the double as Ireland crowned

Adam Carroll became the first driver this season to secure wins in both races in a weekend to help Ireland to lift the A1GP title at Brands Hatch.

Following his success in the Sprint Race, Carroll stormed to victory in the Feature Race ahead of Jeroen Bleekemolen for the Netherlands and Switzerland's Neel Jani to give Ireland the championship crown and leave Switzerland to settle for second.

From pole position, Carroll dominated the race and led from start to finish – pit stops aside – to come home more than ten seconds clear of Bleekemolen, while Jani took third for Switzerland despite a damaged exhaust on his car to ensure the runner-up slot in the standings for the outgoing champions.

Clivio Piccione was fourth for Monaco, having run second in the early stages, while fifth place for Filipe Albuquerque was good enough to secure third in the standings for Portugal – who had been the third team in with a chance of the title going into the weekend.

Mexico took sixth in the race ahead of Britain's Dan Clarke, who had to contend with a damaged exhaust and a late trip off track to take seventh from John Martin. Eight for Martin wasn't enough to put Australia ahead of New Zealand in the championship standings with the pair level in points but Black Beauty having a superior finishing record. Tonio Liuzzi and Nicolas Prost rounded out the top ten for Italy and France.

The final race of the season featured early drama when China, India and the USA clashed at Paddock Hill Bend on the opening lap.

While JR Hildebrand was able to continue and ultimately finished 14th for the USA, both India and China were out on the spot with Narain Karthikeyan lucky not to roll when his car when sideways into the gravel after being tagged by a spinning Frankie Cheng.

Well done Adam. Maybe now someone will recognise this underrated British talent. He has always had the ability, just not the money or backing . He has raced and beaten Nelson Piquet, Nico Rosberg, Timo Glock, Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton, so deserves his shot at F1.
