Highcroft withdraws Penske protest

The result of the 2008 running of the Petit Le Mans has been made official after the Patron Highcroft team withdrew the protest it had lodged prior to the event.

The Acura squad had filed the protest into what it felt were possible fuel irregularities in the Porsche RS Spyders – which went on to win LMP2 and secure the championship crowns.

However, IMSA – the sanctioning body of the ALMS – has now announced that the protest has been withdrawn, with the result of the race declared official and the case now closed.

"The protest filed Saturday morning at Petit Le Mans and Road Atlanta by the entrant of the #9 car has been withdrawn," a brief statement read. "The owner has contacted IMSA's Chairman of the Stewards to make his decision known.

"As a result, the provisional results are considered official and IMSA considers the matter closed."
