McNish thanks fans for ALMS award

Allan McNish has paid tribute to the fans who voted him as the driver of the decade in the American Le Mans Series.

The Scot, who won at Petit Le Mans and the Le Mans 24 Hours this season, came out on top of the fans poll ahead of the likes of Corvette drivers Johnny O'Connell and Oliver Beretta, Patron Highcroft ace David Brabham and fellow Audi star Lucas Luhr.

"I'd like to thank everybody from the American Le Mans Series who voted for me as the Driver of the Decade," he said. "I was very pleasantly surprised when I arrived into Laguna and was told that I had won the overall vote.

"To be voted #1 out of that group is quite a humbling experience. I certainly have enjoyed my time in the Series tremendously. It has been excellent fun, excellent racing, great fans, great circuits and a brilliant championship.

“I look forward to the next ten years of the American Le Mans Series and seeing the championship grow even further again."

In his ALMS career, McNish has three LMP1 championships, 26 victories [18 overall], 36 podiums, twelve pole positions and 15 fastest race laps.
