Wow, for sportscar fans, this is like Ferrari leaving F1. No Audi in either ALMS or LMS. I''m sure they''ll be back in 2010, after all, why build a new car only to race a couple of times a year?

Also, I wonder if this has anything to do with the new, and already much hyped ARX-02?

I am sure Audi will race the LMS at least. They are far too experienced a team to think that even they can hand pick races and still win Le Mans. Its been tried before and it rarely works (think - Toyota, Cadillac, even Mercedes to a degree).

Still, its surprising they've decided to abandon the series that made their name in modern sports car racing, though they've often said them ALMS tracks don't suit their European designed cars, and often complained even more about the freedoms given to the LMP2 cars in the ALMS.

As for the ARX-02, even though Audi have often commented on the lack of competition in LMP1 it does seem they are jumping ship just as a worthy adversary comes along

Heartbreaking -- ALMS without the sight and sound of the Audi Diesel will not be the same.

What a sad event. I hope they return soon and they will without a doubt be missed.

Wow, first the Grand Prix in Detroit is canceled, and now when the race returns in 2010 there won't be an Audi? It's the whole problem with prototype racing now, there are not enough factory backed teams and the competition lags because of it. It's a real shame.
