I think the shape of the car may have contributed in a way though. The GT driver could look to his right, see the nose of the car in his peripheral vision and place his car according to that visual impression, not thinking about the fact that the rear is much wider. Spatial awareness becomes something natural to these drivers, you don't necessarily look carefully and think before you turn but it gets almost instinctual after many years of racing. This car messes with that a bit and I think that may be part of the cause to why we see these weird accidents where people just drive straight into it. They simply misjudge the space in that split second.
