Allan McNish has revealed that he is confident of remaining a part of Audi's motorsport programme next season, even though he is unable to shed any further light on exactly what he will be driving.
Writing in his personal newsletter, the Scot admitted that he was 'pretty certain' of being with Audi, but that decisions on the exact make-up of the programme had been delayed by changes to the board at the German giant.
"Unfortunately, I can't tell you much about my racing plans for 2007 because I honestly don't know them myself," he explained, "I'm pretty certain I'll be with Audi Sport again, but Prof Dr Martin Winterkorn is leaving his post as chairman of the board of Audi AG to become chairman of the board of management of Volkswagen AG on 1 January. This, in itself, would not normally affect me greatly, but the changeover has come just at a time when Audi's head of sport, Dr Wolfgang Ullrich, was about to get programmes and specific details signed off for next season, so it's causing a delay. There could be news just before Christmas, but there might not..."
Despite being moderately successful during his 'year out' campaigning one of the brand's A4s in the 2005 DTM, McNish returned to sportscars this year, scooping the American Le Mans Series title for a second time, and making history by doing so in a diesel-powered R10.
"It's been one of, if not,
the most enjoyable seasons in motorsport I've had - if, admittedly, very tiring," he wrote, "I've completed about twelve separate trips to the US since March and, what with everything else, have not been at home too much - possibly less than 100 days - so I'm looking forward to some quality time with [wife] Kelly and [son] Finlay in the next few weeks before it all kicks off again.
"We came back over to the UK last week for some pre-Christmas shopping and family visits, going up to Scotland, then back down south to spend Christmas and the New Year with Kelly's family – a break that I am really looking forward to and, quite honestly, am badly in need of."
