McNish joins Audi`s Petit ranks.

Allan McNish will bid for his fourth Petit Le Mans victory, and aim to keep his personal 100 per cent winning record intact, after receiving a late call-up to the works Audi squad for this weekend's 1000-mile marathon.

The Scot, who had raced in this year's European-based Le Mans Series rather than defending his ALMS crown, will rejoin regular co-driver Rinaldo Capello, who was inked to the #1 car a while ago, and fellow Audi veteran Emanuele Pirro for the Road Atlanta classic as the German marque attempts to defend its long-running, eight-race, unbeaten record in the event. The Audi R8 won six times in succession between 2000-05, with the R10 TDI triumphant in 2006 and '07.

McNish also boasts an undefeated affinity with Petit Le Mans, and will be looking to take a fourth victory after winning in 2000 with Capello and the late Michele Alboreto, and in a two-handed effort with Capello for the last two years.

“Petit has been good for 'Dindo' and I, as we have raced three times and won three times, but I think this year it will be very tough to call whether we can make it four out of four,” McNish acknowledged, “Last year, after 1000 miles, we won by less than one second and, in 2008 - with Peugeot, several Acuras and Porsche - I think it will be the best Petit Le Mans yet."

Despite Capello being named to join Pirro in the #1 car, McNish had expected to be an interested onlooker this weekend, but is delighted to have got the call to complete a veteran trio alongside the 'young gun' sister Audi of ALMS LMP1 champions Lucas Luhr and Marco Werner.

“Until last week, my season was due to finish at the last LMS round at Silverstone, but I was pleased to be able to do this extra race in America," McNish admitted, "I love the fast and flowing track and the 100,000 crowd certainly make the atmosphere very special.”

I think that this is a very good move by Audi to draft in Allan McNish in the Number 1 car, which will give an already experienced crew more experience and will certainly make them favourites to win Petit Le Mans this year due to his pace and experience combined with Capello and Pirro''s experiences as well ahead of the Number 07 Peuegot
