David Brabham will hope to keep his recent momentum going as the battle for the American Le Mans Series LMP2 title heads to Road Atlanta for the Petit Le Mans – the penultimate round of the 2008 campaign.
Alongside Patron Highcroft racing team-mate Scott Sharp, Brabham lies second in the LMP2 title fight with the pair just four points Penske Porsche pairing Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas.
With 2007 IndyCar Series Champion and Indy 500 victor Dario Franchitti joining the multi race-winning Brabham-Sharp partnership for Petit Le Mans, the Patron Highcroft Acura looks strong going into the weekend although Brabham admitted that he was expecting a difficult fight.
“With such an incredible driver line-up, I'm really looking forward to Petit Le Mans,” he said. “We have managed to catch up massively on points thanks to the Patron Highcroft Acura's consistently strong performance, particularly in the last five rounds. I'm feeling great and Patron Highcroft Racing is the hottest team out there on average, so we are in the best possible position to take a good shot at the LMP2 championship crown.
“We are carrying a lot of momentum into the last two rounds of the season but we will focus on each race in turn and first devote our absolute concentration to Petit Le Mans. The line up of teams and drivers for this special event is the best ever so the competition will be fierce, but I'm looking forward to the fight.”
Brabham and Sharp enter the final stretch of the season with four wins including one outright victory to their credit while the Patron Highcroft Acura has beaten the Penske Porsche in each of the last three rounds.
